Company History

Tyne North Training was founded in 1968 by the Engineering Industry Training Board, together with local small and medium sized engineering companies, as a Group Training Organisation.

The purpose of Tyne North Training was to provide the member companies, many of whom did not have their own training departments, with assistance in recruiting and training apprentices to EMTA standards. To a large extent this role has not changed over the years, apart from the business now delivers Workforce Development Qualification through a Train to Gain contract.

The company is run by an Executive Committee elected from the member companies and has charitable status.

The vast majority of apprentices are employed by member companies and by far the greatest number are Advanced Apprenticeship programmes following the SEMTA framework. Tyne North Training is an Approved Assessment Centre for EAL.

Presently Tyne North Training looks after approximately 300 employed apprentices from 95 member companies, over 90% of who are Advanced Apprentices.

The companies we deal with are involved with Light and Heavy Engineering ranging from electronics to ship building.

Tyne North Training operates an accredited ISO9001:2008 Quality System and also hold Matrix accreditation for the supply of Information, Advice and Guidance. We are also an Occupational Safety Member of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accident and a member of the Engineering Employers Federation.
