Our Apprentices matter to us
Tyne North Training currently project manage around 450 Engineering and Business Administration apprentices. At Tyne North Training, we pride ourselves on the level of support we provide for our apprentices, all of whom have their own dedicated discipline-specific Training Officer, along with a dedicated workplace employer mentor.
Our recruitment process is designed to ensure that we have an in-depth understanding of our potential apprentices and that we only secure them roles that suit their own individual personality traits and abilities. Recruiting for around 150 regional employers, our official Engineering recruitment window lasts from January through to August with the majority of Engineering apprentices starting in the period of July to September. However, our Business Administration recruitment operates all year round.

What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a job with training. You will complete a mixture of academic study, workplace training and will also be fulfilling your job role within your employer.
Do I have to stay on at school or go to a sixth form college before I can start an apprenticeship?
No, as an apprenticeship contains training this means you are still classed as receiving education, so you don’t have to stay on at school or college. You can start an apprenticeship any time after you have turned 16 and completed your GCSEs
Do I have to go to college during my apprenticeship?
This depends on the type of apprenticeship. Some apprenticeships are delivered 100% in the workplace with no requirement to go elsewhere. However, some may have periods of full-time study in a college (called block release) or involve studying in college one day per week (called day release)
Do I get paid?
When you are an apprentice you are an employee and as a minimum will receive the apprenticeship minimum wage for your age. This includes being paid for any periods when you are in college.
How much do i get paid?
The minimum that your employer must pay you is dependent upon your age. Details of the current rates can be found on https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates. Not all apprenticeship employers pay the minimum however and some may pay considerably more
Who looks after me during my apprenticeship?
You will be assigned a workplace mentor who will support you in your employer and ensure that you getting access to the right type of training and exposure to the right range of job tasks to ensure that you can progress your apprenticeship.
You will also be assigned a Training Officer by Tyne North Training. They will visit you regularly in your employer (and at college if you are studying there) to assess and monitor your progress. They will liaise with your workplace mentor to identify your training requirements and ensure that you are getting the right level of support
What do I get at the end of my apprenticeship?
As a minimum you will receive your apprenticeship certificate which is your legal proof that you have completed an apprenticeship in a particular discipline. Depending on the apprenticeship you may also complete various qualifications (such as BTECs, City & Guilds and NVQs) during the course of your apprenticeship. On completion of your apprenticeship you may also be eligible for the membership of a relevant professional body
What happens afterwards?
You will have completed the first step in your career. You will now be ready to progress further through higher level qualifications or on to a higher level of apprenticeship. We have excellent retention rates. Many of our apprentices are kept on by their employers at the end of their apprenticeship
What sectors can I apply for?
Tyne North Training deliver apprenticeships in the Engineering and Business Administration sectors. In each of these sectors there are a number of different disciplines and roles in which it is possible to complete an apprenticeship.
Within the Business Administration sector, Tyne North Training deliver apprenticeships to individuals in a variety of business functions such as Human Resources, Marketing, Finance and Accounts, Secretarial, Procurement, Office Administration, Sales and Customer Services.
In the Engineering Manufacturing sector, Tyne North Training deliver apprenticeships in disciplines such as CNC Machining, Fabrication and Welding, Mechanical/Electrical Maintenance, Computer-Aided Design and Engineering Technical Support.
